Keep in mind that an auxiliary verb has to be placed before the subject to change in to interrogative sentence from assertive sentence. It is worth mentioning that interrogative must be in the negative if the assertive sentence is in the affirmative sense. Similarly, if the assertive is in the negative, interrogative sentence will be in the affirmative sense. To make a negative interrogative, you have to use the contracted form of “auxiliary verb + not”. Such as, (isn’t, aren’t, don’t, doesn’t, hasn’t, hadn’t, wasn’t, weren’t, won’t, can’t etc.)
Keep in mind that some interrogative sentences are formed with the help of auxiliary verb “ and answer can be given saying simply yes or no” and some other questions are comprised of “WH words” (answer is given descriptively).
For example
- Assertive: Television televises different programs.
- Interrogative: Doesn’t television televise different programs?
- Assertive: Corruption is not a good component for the society.
- Interrogative: Is corruption a good component for the society?
But if your assertive sentence contains “none, no one, nobody”, use “who” instead of those above mentioned words to make a question. Such as,
- Assertive: Nobody can deny the fact of mortality.
- Interrogative: who can deny the fact of mortality?
An assertive sentence containing “everyone, everybody, all” can be changed in to interrogative by using “who + auxiliary verb in the negative form”. For example:
- Assertive: Everyone has a goal of life.
- Interrogative: Who does not have a goal of life?
- Assertive: Everyone was enjoying the function on the occasion of cultural sports day.
- Interrogative: Who was not enjoying the function on the occasion of cultural sports day?
“Nothing = anything, never =ever, no = any” will be done to transform from assertive to interrogative.
- Assertive: She has nothing to say at all.
- Interrogative: Has she anything to say at all?
assertive: Our family has never been to abroad.
- Interrogative: Has our family ever been to abroad.
Assertive: there is no real development in North Korea.
- Interrogative: Is there any real development in North Korea.
